Occult
Occult literally means, the
'hidden things'. If we have ever been involved in occult
practices we need to bring them into the light of God's
forgiveness. Because of the additional spiritual and
supernatural principles involve, we can experience a
considerable release when putting this area right. The contrary
will apply if we persist or do not put things right. Note the
following principles:
· REALM OF THE SUPERNATURAL
· There are two sources of supernatural power or knowledge
1. God
2. The Devil
· The only way to God is through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ
(John14: 6). This infers that any other way in which we have
approached God has been erroneous. And if we have sought
knowledge or power (e.g. Healing, etc) in all probability its
counterfeit.
· CONSEQUENCES:
· If we have called upon demonic sources for aid - no matter how
inadvertently, we can place ourselves in bondage to
1. Sickness
2. Fear
3. Oppression etc.
This is because we have violated the "hedge" (Job 1:10). God
places around us a 'hedge', to protect us from the supernatural.
When we seek other sources than the Lord, we place a gate or an
access point in that hedge for whoever we have called upon. For
example, if we have consulted 'palmists' or 'horoscopes' or 'ouija
boards', we have given an access for foul spirits of divination
into our lives.
In other words, if we have violated this hedge by an act of our
will, we need to repair it by another act of our will.
Note: It is not enough to get others to pray for us, we need by
an act of deliberate choice, to renounce any such past actions,
personally.
· If one has been given to idolatry, it is necessary for him to
renounce the god's of his fathers (II Chronicles 29:5,6,10). He
should no longer desire to take those god's with him (in any
form, e.g., carrying pictures of them). By this act he is
closing by a deliberate act of the will any entry points for the
evil spirits.
· CONFESSION
· If we confess our sins we will be cleansed from it (I John
1:9). The following things are all occult practices and they are
to be avoided like the plague. If one has previously been
involved with these, they should be :
1. SPECIFICALLY sought for forgiveness of God
2. SPECIFICALLY and INDIVIDUALLY renounced

While this list may seem comprehensive, it cannot attempt to
cover every occult practices and divinations. Pray therefore
that the Holy Spirit will bring to mind another relevant
matters, God within you will warn you. If you are limited, if
you are unsure, refer to the Pastor/Elder.
ACTION
It is good to
1. Make a list of things involved
2. Pray with another who can over see your list to ensure that
nothing is missing
3. In praying, firstly ask God's forgiveness
4. Then SPECIFICALLY renounce each item
For example, Lord Jesus, I am sorry that I have been involved in
occult practices and I ask your forgiveness for playing with,
reading horoscopes, etc. I turn away from those things and
renounce them from my life. Satan, I therefore renounce your
practices from my life and I renounce reading horoscopes etc.
It is then wise to ask the person praying with you to pray for
you.
