I
wish to share with you a portion from the book of Matthew chapter
27. This is something that has laid hold of my life. I am sure the
Lord will meet with you in these verses as He did with me.
Matthew 27:45, 46. “Now from the sixth hour
there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. And
about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli,
Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast
thou forsaken me?”
Matthew 27:50, 51. “Jesus, when he had cried
again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the
veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom;
and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;”
Matthew 27:54. “Now when the centurion, and
they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and
those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly
this was the Son of God.”
It
was
darkness over all the earth. Yet, it was the sixth hour unto the
ninth hour, which means it was between 12 noon to 3 in the
afternoon. The sun was at its highest and strongest point. The sun
was burning, scorching hot at that time. The Scriptures,
nevertheless, say that there was darkness all around. Why was it
dark? Why did the sun refuse to give light? The Scriptures say the
earth began to quake. In other words, the earth was torn or rent
apart. Why did the earth quake? The One who has created
everything, the One who constituted everything, the One who put all
things in order, stood rejected and crucified upon a cross. The
rightful Heir of all things has been slain and denied His rightful
place. The sun would say, ‘I have no reason to shine for the
purpose for which I shine,
while the Son
lies
rejected and slain!’ The earth rip itself and cry, ‘There is now no
purpose for me to remain whole!’ No wonder the Centurian said,
“Truly this was the Son of God.” He said this not from a
mental conclusion of observation. He realised that something
immense, colossal and gigantic was taking place. Perhaps, he
understood and realised that here was the One who is the Heir to all
things and the One in whom all things hold together.
We
do not realise how this salvation has come unto us. The beloved of
the Father, the One who is the Heir of all things cried out in
anguish and said, “Father, Father, why hast thou forsaken me?”
Yet, the Father turned His face and did not answer the son.
Jesus, the beloved Son, was forsaken because the sin of mankind was
put upon Him; the One who knew no sin became sin for us. Salvation
is not a cheap thing, beloved. May the Lord reveal this to us!
This salvation is free, but let us never forget the One who paid the
price for that salvation. The Scripture says that when the Father
turned His face to the other side and would not hear the prayer of
His beloved Son, the sun refused to give its light and the earth
began to quirk. Oh may the Lord help us to see the preciousness of
our calling in Christ. The rejection of the Son even by the Father
in those moments has brought this call to us! Let our lives be
changed in these days and let us meet with the Jesus of the
Scriptures, who is the Creator and the Heir of all things.
Beloved, if you put ‘the Heir of all things’ out of your life, you
will find that your life will be a broken mass of pieces. When they
crucified the One who had created all things, even the earth began
to shiver and quake, because He is the one who holds all things
together. When He was turned away and put out, everything began to
fall apart. The same thing happens with our lives. Our lives will
disintegrate and go to pieces if we reject Him, because He is the
one who holds our lives together.
My
life was once shattered and broken. It had no meaning. It was
empty and barren. Praise the Lord that one-day, He came into my
life and put all things in order. I know one thing that He is
holding me together. My life will disintegrate the moment He leaves
me. I stand on a new ground in the Lord. The reason why many are
miserable, filled with loneliness and pain, is because Jesus is on
the outside of their lives, and not on the inside. Jesus holds all
things together in our lives and in the lives of our families.
The integration in our lives comes from our union with Christ.
All around us, there are people who are disillusioned, disappointed,
dissatisfied and scattered in their lives. Multitudes have put
Jesus outside their lives and neglected the only One who can hold
their lives together. Beloved, your family life can be changed; God
can do a new work of integration and harmony in your family; you too
can experience an elemental constituting within, by the Heir of all
things provided He is given His rightful place in your family. Let
us hold fast to this Saviour, who holds all things together. Let
the Heir of all things gather up all loose ends according to the
will of the Father. It is unto this Person we have been called.
The Eternal Father has brought us unto this Matchless One. God is
faithful who has called you into the fellowship of His Son. May the
Spirit of God reveal this Jesus to each one of us. Let Him hold
everything together in your life.
